Hove Business Partnership logoThe Hove Business Partnership (HBP) was formed in 2000 bringing together representatives of business and statutory stakeholders with the objective of devising and delivering an Action Plan to improve the prosperity of central Hove and Brunswick.

The Partnership meets bi-monthly to review work in progress being undertaken by members representing the different sectors as well as reviewing priorities.

Business representation on the Partnership is overseen annually by the Hove Business Association to ensure the diversity of business interests in this part of the city is represented. There are representatives of independent traders as well as multiple stores, restaurants and hotels, property agents, financial services and transport. Brighton & Hove City Council is represented by a leading councillor from the lead party, a local councillor and an officer from the Economic Development section. Sussex Police are represented by the Chief Inspector for the city’s Hove division. There are close links with the City Business Forum who provide administrative support and resources to help with projects as well as the Business Crime Reduction Partnership.

The Hove Action Plan devised by the Partnership was last refreshed in 2004 and has four objectives:

  • Make Central Hove and Brunswick the cleanest part of the City
  • Improve the viability of Hove as a place to do business.
  • Promote Hove as a place for shopping and recreation.
  • Reduce the impact of crime against business.

A newsletter, Hove Matters, is produced and distributed to all businesses in the area.

Achieving these objectives requires enthusiasm and commitment from all who work in partnership, as well as money! A modest budget is made available by the City Council and HBP works hard to try and match this funding with contributions from the business sector.

Plans for the future include the appointment of a full time Town Centre Manager and working towards developing the Partnership’s work into a formally constituted Business Improvement District.
