Hove Business Partnership
The Hove Business Partnership known as HBP for short brings together all the key people who can make Hove a better place to live, do business and visit.
Members of the business community representing all the different businesses in Hove attend together with key councillors and officers from Brighton & Hove City Council as well as City Clean and other departments including Licensing and Enforcement and also Sussex Police.
HBP was formed in 2000 with the objective of devising and delivering an Action Plan to improve the prosperity of central Hove and Brunswick.
The Partnership meets quarterly and reviews work in progress being undertaken by members representing the different sectors as well as reviewing priorities.
Business representation on the Partnership is overseen annually by the Hove Business Association to ensure the diversity of business interests in this part of the city is represented. There are representatives of independent traders as well as multiple stores, restaurants and hotels, property agents, financial services and transport. There are close links with the City Business Forum who provide administrative support and resources to help with projects as well as the Business Crime Reduction Partnership. Hove’s Town Centre Manager is a key member of HBP and oversees many of the projects.
The Hove Action Plan devised by the Partnership has four objectives:
Make Central Hove and Brunswick the cleanest part of the City
Improve the viability of Hove as a place to do business.
Promote Hove as a place for shopping and recreation.
Reduce the impact of crime against business.
Many activities have been undertaken during the past decade including promoting good customer service through Hove’s Customer Service Awards; ensuring excellent floral displays through sponsorship within City in Bloom; arranging many events to attract shoppers and visitors in George Street and Brunswick Lawns; liaising with City Clean to ensure cleanliness is the best and graffiti banished; encouraging businesses to join the Business Crime Reduction partnership. A newsletter is produced and distributed to all businesses in the area keeping everyone informed.
Achieving these objectives requires enthusiasm and commitment from all who work in partnership, as well as money! A modest budget is made available by the City Council and HBP works hard to try and match this funding with contributions from the business sector.
DId You Know?
Since 2000 HBP has helped fund over 15,000 flowers and made Hove look "blooming marvellous".
